WHAT IS A CATARACT?
cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye that is located directly behind the pupil.
This structure — also called the crystalline lens — works with the clear front surface of the eye (cornea) to focus light on the retina, beginning the process of sight.
The crystalline lens is made of mostly water and protein. The protein is arranged in a precise way that keeps the lens clear and lets light pass through it.
When you develop a cataract, this orderly arrangement of protein in the lens gets disrupted. This causes the lens to become cloudy, which prevents light from being focused clearly on the retina.
Cataracts cause blurry vision that cannot be corrected with eyeglasses or contact lenses. Left untreated cataracts tend to worsen over time. Left untreated, cataracts can lead to blindness.
Which intraocular Lens is best For Me ?
This screening will assist you in determining which intraocular lens (IOL) might be best suited for your visual needs if cataract surgery is determined appropriate for you. It's important that you understand that many patients still need to wear glasses for some activities after surgery. But, due to recent technological advances, the possibility exists for you to be potentially free from glasses after cataract surgery.
Once you complete this brief screening you will be presented with the best IOL option based upon your answers. However, this screening does not constitute medical advice. It's strongly recommended that you schedule an appointment with your eye doctor to discuss these results and for a thorough eye examination.
